Bruce Giles (First Utility District of Knox County) and Jeff Rose (Smith Seckman Reid, Inc.) will provide an interactive and candid discussion about Emotional Intelligence and the effect it has on performance and teamwork in a utility.  Several common tools that can be used to improve Emotional Intelligence in a work setting will be discussed and demonstrated .

2014 S. Leary Jones Scholarship Application

Two scholarships will be awarded to full-time students attending an accredited Kentucky or Tennessee institution and currently majoring in an area related to the clean water industry. Students must have accumulated over 65 credit hours.

Applications must be received by June 6, 2014 to be eligible for consideration.

mike gardnerkimberly martinMike Gardner, Water/Wastewater Systems Manager, Bowling Green Municipal Utilities, and Kimberly Martin, KY-TN WEA Collections Committee Co-chair, CDM Smith provided an overview of the collection system problems faced by utilities from non-dispersible products and what is being done to address those issues. An overview of the efforts by the WEF Non-Dispersibles Workgroup and other organizations to understand the issues facing utilities was presented, as well as a summary of their efforts to work with the manufacturers of these materials to establish standards for labeling and product performance. In addition, a summary of the experiences from utilities in Kentucky and Tennessee was provided.
